DIVIDED WE PLAY, UNITED WE CHEER
- Michael Zosangliana
There is joy in knowing that you are good at something. This,
sport brings to you.

Everyday you can find the fields in different localities packed
with youngsters to adults all wanting to have a go at the ball. The basketball
courts are filled with aspiring talents waiting for their turn to play. And YMA
halls filled with young karate and judo amateurs getting instructions from
their trainers.
People enjoy themselves playing
different kinds of sports. It helps them mentally as well as physically. But on
top of that it unites them with others participating in the same field.
In a society where most of us are too busy to make new friends
by just walking up to them and start chatting, in the field, it is a different
scenario. When you team up with others you instantly have a common goal or
rival. You maybe the player, supporter or spectator, but you still unite under
one roof when it comes to supporting the team or operating under the same
leader. You may fight with your neighbour over who gets the water supply first,
but when your local club is playing live on television you start talking about
the players to watch and need to win the match and so on.
Whether somebody is
passionate about sports or just don’t bother at all. It still unites people in
some way or the other. When our state plays against another state. We support
our players whether or not we are even going to watch it. It is that feeling
that unites and builds a community. Fiddling with our smart phones and
computers will surely connect us with people that are distant from us but it
merely isolates us from the people that are right next to us.
However playing any kind of sport does not necessarily mean you
have to be very good at it, it’s all about the passion and the joy you get
while you’re at it. It will help develop both your physical as well as mental
well being. Like the saying goes “All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy”.
There is only so much that can be learned from the classrooms.
